The other day I was watching a video on YouTube talking about how to determine what to post on Instagram. You can watch the video here. In this video, Chris Do said at some moment to write down 20 insights from your life experience regarding any topic like art, design, philosophy, health, fitness, etc. After doing that, he prompted the audience to ask themselves if anyone would pay for that insight and how much. It’s been a while since I’ve been watching his content and Chris always shares valuable information regarding creativity and business, often about creative business since his channel is focused on the creative community, so if you are interested in these things I would definitely recommend checking them out.

I was doing client work back in 2018 when I founded my creative business but it’s been a while since I haven’t taken any clients. I wanted something fresh to work on and doing only mobile and web development wasn’t being very fulfilling anymore. For that reason, I’ve been trying out some advice here and there, mainly from Chris and Gary Vaynerchuck.

So, I got my pen and notebook and started writing. How can I come up with 20 insights from my life experience? What is my life experience after all?

I began with the later.

As I was writing my life experience, things that happened with me ever since I was a child to my present days, something started to pop up. A pattern per se.

Writing these things down made me realize something that I had noticed before but not with this much clarity. My whole life has been a battle where I’m struggling to simply be myself. It might seem like a bit of a stretch to say that, but understand that ever since I was a boy I had a hard time accepting who I am. And for many reasons.

Appearance, personality, aspirations. Pretty much everything that is authentic to me I had a hard time embracing and would actually be embarrassed by. That gave me quite a unique perspective over the years, and especially recently, about love, self-acceptance, and self-awareness. I say this because that’s what I believe is needed to overcome your insecurities and the fight against your impostor who thinks you are not good enough.

Armed with these two new insights, I began to wonder how could I apply that professionally in a business setting. How could I use this knowledge about the things from the heart, combine it with my creative passions, and use them to help others in business and in life? As I was writing down my questioning, a glimpse of the answer already popped up. Emotional intelligence, I wrote.

Emotional intelligence? I had to look it up to understand what that term means.

My brief research online sparked my interest around the subject and more questions arose. Emotional Intelligence, or EQ, as they say, touches the areas of self-awareness, self-regulation, internal motivation, empathy, and people skills. These are all subjects that I love and are also what some people that I most admire talk about (like Gary Vaynerchuck for instance, who constantly pushes people towards kindness, compassion, gratitude, empathy, and self-awareness). I started wondering if EQ somehow correlates with other parts of life, like creativity, success, and whatnot. And as it turns out, it does.

Now the question that remains, or questions, is how can I combine everything that I like, creativity, art, love & acceptance, with the new EQ thing. And to the ultimate goal, how to use that in a business environment.

I’ll be doing further research about the topic and coming up with more ideas in the future. I’ll keep you all posted and share what I learn in the process here and throughout all my social media. Thank you for reading this and if you want to keep up with all other sides of me, check out my other social media accounts here. Stay tuned for more!
